guatemala-hotel.jpgFrom five star chain hotels like the Marriot and the Westin, to quaint bed and breakfast guest houses; Guatemala has them all. So no matter what type of accommodation in Guatemala you are looking for, you can probably find it somewhere. As with any vacation, the perfect hotel can make or break the trip and Guatemala is no different. Take your time when planning out where you will stay. Read personal reviews and talk to other travelers if you can.

Accommodation terms such as hostel, hotel, budget, luxury, resort, etc; are all used very loosely here. This is why we recommend doing as much research as possible about a hotel before you stay there. That said, we aren’t trying to scare off, we just don’t want you to be disappointed at your US$30 a night “luxury” hotel. There are plenty of amazing hotels in the country that offer you more than your moneys worth.

Hotel Types

With many of the hotels in Guatemala, you get what you pay for. A five star hotel in Guatemala City will run you about US $150 a night and includes such amenities as; Casino, Swimming Pool, Spa/Massage, Broadband Access, Hot Tub, Tennis, Air Conditioning, Television, and more.

Like many other tourist destinations in the world, the closer the hotel is to an attraction, the more expensive it will be. When looking for a hotel near a certain attraction take into account services like:

  • Free transportation to the attraction from the hotel.
  • Does the hotel offer discounted tours to the attraction?
  • How loud is the attraction and how close is your hotel to it?

If none of the hotels in the area offer these kind of services, you are probably better off finding a hotel further away from the attraction. Prices of hotel even just 20 minutes away from a popular attraction will likely be half as expensive as the ones right next to it.

Hotel Prices

The prices of the hotels in Guatemala depend on where you stay. Some of the most expensive hotels can be found in Guatemala City or in all inclusive resorts. Most high end hotels in the country tend to border on the US$150 line.

More budget friendly hotels can easily be found for $40 to $70 a night all over the country.

For most of the year, especially in the rainy season, reservations are not needed. During the months of November to April however, you will want to make reservations. Popular hotels near touristy destination can become booked up fast.
