Searching for a quality accommodation that meets your needs and budget is the next logical step after you take care of your flight to Guatemala. There are a variety of type of accommodations to suit any travelers needs. From luxury all inclusive resorts to budget hostels for backpackers, Guatemala has a little bit of everything.
As with most places in Central and South America, you get what you pay for when it comes to accommodation. If you find a hotel for $25 a night, don’t expect it to be to exciting. In fact, don’t expect all of your luggage to stay there either. Use common sense and travelers recommendations when looking for a place to stay in Guatemala.
The busy season starts runs from November to April. If you plan on traveling during these months, you will want to make as many reservations ahead of time as possible. Below are a few of the typical types of accommodations available in Guatemala.
Hotels
The quality of the hotel is easily related to the price. Obviously, the higher the price, the nicer the hotel will be. A hundred dollars a night will get you a nice room at a beautiful hotel just about anywhere in the country. There are also more budget friendly hotels that start around $50 a night. Anything less than that is questionable. Prices tend to be a little lower in the off season.

Hostels
Hostels here aren’t as plentiful as with other places in Central and South America. As for the quality though, many of the hostels here are typical of Central and South America. Some hostels are super nice, while others, not so much. Prices are also fairly typical and run around $12 - $20 a night for dorm rooms. Prices are lower in the off season.

Resorts
From romantic getaway resorts to family friendly ones, Guatemala has them all. Resorts here are a great bang for their buck. Many of the mid range resorts are priced only slightly higher than some hotels. For around $170 a night you can find resorts that feel more like a private country club than a crowded resort. Traveling during the off season will give you lower rates and less crowds at these beautiful resorts.
